TV record: 5.2 billion viewers pursue European Championship 2021

The European Championship 2021 has broken a new record in terms of switch-on quota. More than 5.2 billion fans worldwide pursued the tournament.

This is apparent from the numbers published by the UEFA. Accordingly, a total of 5.23 billion viewers had followed the 51 games of the European Championship 2021 on television. At the last European Championship 2016 there were still 4.9 billion fans.

The final between Italy and England saw 328 million fans. Around the globe, the tournament was transferred to 137 stations in 229 countries and territories.

The fans were hot to see this first big tournament since the beginning of the corona crisis with spectators in the stadiums, says Guy-Laurent Epstein, Marketing Director at UEFA, the strong numbers: That caused a WOW Effect.
