Leverkusen attacker Joel Pohjanpalo before switching to Turkey
On Saturday he did it again. At Finland's 1: 0 Success in the World Cup qualifier against Kazakhstan, Joel Pohjanpalo secured the three points with his goal to the European Championship participant, which his land ranked 2 in the group D Hievten. It was Pohjanpalos eleventh hits in his 47th country game. His balance in the Bundesliga looks similarly good: 13 times the 26-year-old, who often had only the Joker role in the club, had the torn net in a total of 41 firstligue inserts.
His prospects to come in Leverkusen on regular operating times are still low. Behind EM-Torjäger Patrick Schick and its deluxe backup, the Argentine international Lucas Alario, the Finn is only center-to-door number 3 in the squad.
But that will probably change quickly - because PohjanPalo likes to leave the factory club shortly. The Turkish club Ricepor wants to borrow the attacker. The talks are far advanced, the final agreement is still out. While no change in Germany has been possible in Germany since 31 August, the transfer window in Turkey closes on Wednesday.
Bayer wanted to sell PohjanPalo actually
Actually, Bayer wanted to sell the attacker whose contract expires in mid-2022, for about two million euros. But this was difficult despite some requests. So that PohjanPalo can be borrowed, Bayer will previously extend the contract of the professionals, who repeatedly had bad luck with serious injury. Due to the new employment contract with the Bundesliga club, a lending is only possible.
In Turkey, Pohjanpalo has the perspective to play regularly. In Leverkusen it will barely get this after his return. Should Schick or Alario 2022 change, Bayer would undertake a top tower again.
In any case, the deal with Rizespor is still an advantage for all sides: The Turks would have a true attacker, PohjanPalo much more game practice. And so it could recommend this for a new club, whereby Bayer 04 in the summer of 2022 could still achieve the desired transfer fee for the legal foot.
