Expand PS5 memory: List with matching SSDs that meet all requirements

For days, many PS5 fans are currently employing a question: Which SSD can I expand the short-sized internal storage space? Sony has finally rolled out the beta software and confirm the first brands that their SSDs officially meet all requirements and also fit into the narrow slot of the PS5. Here you will find the list of previously known SSDs, which are suitable as PS5 memory expansion and also fit.

Which SSD fits in the PS5 and meets all requirements?

There are already some: After only one manufacturer was officially confirmed last week, that the in-house SSD fits and works, now gradually add more and more SSDs. That this goes slowly is mainly due to the extensive conditions that the SSDs must meet. It's not just about interface and speed, but also heatsink and dimensions.

You must pay attention: Sony has listed very detailed, which requirements for the memory expansion SSDs are set. But since the whole thing is still in the beta phase, there may be something else (but it would be pretty wondering) and Sony does not warrant if you're incorporating a false SSD or should break something.

  • Interface: PCIe Gen4 M.2 NVME SSD
  • Size: 250 GB to 4 TB
  • Read speed: at least 5,500 MB / s
  • Form factor: The PS5 only supports M.2 types 2230, 2242, 2260, 2280 and 22110.
  • Socket Type: Socket 3 (Key M)
  • Height: a total of 11.25mm.

How to incorporate the SSDs exactly and what else is payable for, you will find here in our SSDs instructions:

Fit and work these SSDs:

  • Gigabyte Aorus NVME Gen 4 7000s (officially confirmed, Heatsink is there)
  • Seagate FireCuda 530 (officially confirmed, no heatsink here)
  • Western Digital Black SN850 (officially confirmed and recommended by PS5 Hardware Designer Mark Cerny, there's also with Heatsink)
  • Adata S70 Gammix (smaller heatsink required)
  • Corsair MP600 PRO (smaller heatsink required)
  • Domestic Performance Plus (smaller heatsink required)
  • MSI Spatium M480 (no Heatsink)
  • Patriot Viper VP4300 (no heatsink)
  • Samsung 890 Pro (no heatsink)
  • Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus (no heatsink here)

But beware: With some SSDs listed here, you have to buy and attach yourself to yourself. In some cases a heatsink is, but it is too big. That is, you need a different, smaller and must exchange it for the SSD to fit into the PS5.

A few of these SSDs are not yet officially confirmed, but still fulfill all the conditions and fit from the size.

The Gigabyte Aorus SSD is actually a tiny little bigger than the dimensions given by Sony, but still fits. This gives the manufacturer itself and also confirm the technical experts from Digital Foundry. This is apparently lets Sony rather caution and leads more conservative values.

Which SSD do you have in mind to expand the storage space of your PS5?
